KR2
World Tour - July email ----- Original
Message ----- Hi there, Nine months ago we set out to fly our homebuilt KR2 from Oxford to Sydney (and then maybe onto the USA). Our two-crew consists of Colin Hales, of British nationality and Nadine Brauns, of Belgian nationality. It has taken us 55 flights so far to get to Bali, our range being of 350NM only, and we have had to land in 20 countries. We plan to arrive in Darwin around the 24th July and later in Sydney around the 10th August. As you can imagine, bureaucracy and world politics have not made this journey easy. And now 4 flights from the Australian coast, we have come across yet another hurdle. For our flight between Timor and Australia, we need to carry a little two-man liferaft. This was all supposedly in hand but today when we contacted the company sorting this out, to make sure the liferaft would be in Kupang in the next days, we were told that they were out of stock and nothing had been shipped. We cannot acquire one from Indonesia and we would not want to solely rely on our lifevests! We had to call on the "eleventh hour theory" a few times during this journey, despite our efforts to plan and organise everything we could. Hopefully this will be the last time, but we indeed need to activate a plan B again and we were hoping you would be able to assist us or would have the contact details of people who may be in a position to help. We will of course continue to investigate other options from here, but they are limited. If you can help us or relay our message to some of the members of your association, this would be most appreciated. If not, then not to worry, we will come up with some kind of solution eventually. Please take a look at our website at http://fly.to/worldtour to find out more about ourselves, the plane and the flight. Our best
