Don Williamson award

How it came to be...

Don Williamson was a long standing member of the SABC, and owned a Winjeel aircraft. He was very involved in club activities (both flying and non-flying), and was very interested in the people in the club. Some of his achievements were...

Don was, for many years, the Returning officer and his brother used to be the Club auditor and did not charge for his services. He had a great sense of humour and also, I think, a pilot during WW2 and may have flown as a commercial pilot too.

After Don died in the 1990s - his family wanted a living memory to Don for the SABC, and the Don Williamson Award was born.

What is it for ...

The award is the President's Award for person/s who have contributed to the Clubs progress over the year. It is awarded at the Annual General Meeting every year.

The plaque wording is for "Meritorious Service", but achievements differ from year to year depending on the recipients.

The plaque for this award is maintained in the SABC Clubhouse, as an honour to the recipients, to honour the memory of Don Williamson, and to remind members of the hard work done by all members. Recipients from 2007 onwards also receive a personal momento for their award.
